Travelers on the shining path
The Berlin start-up SIUT develops ready-made concrete parts with spot-lit surfaces. With the integrated light fibers, the flooring becomes a signpost or warning sign. At the customer's request, lines, symbols, letters or logos glow in the ground. Thanks to the direct illumination of the concrete surface, travelers can better orient themselves in train stations. In 2016, the first floor slabs with recessed light points were laid on the ground floor of the Berlin S-Bahnhof Anhalter Bahnhof.
On October 5, 2017, Deutsche Bahn will be presenting a luminous platform edge of its partner start-up on the product presentation "Mobility Experience 2017" in Berlin. SIUT demonstrates on the fiber optic model how optical information generated by symbols and different colors can help to improve punctuality through optimized train handling.
In November 2017, the innovative solution for passenger steering in the Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt S-Bahn station will be used. The light-fiber symbols at the platform edge show the passengers the train holding position and length as well as the train load already before the entrance of an S-Bahn. In addition, the real-time utilization as well as an utilization forecast for trains in an app can be called up. The capacity indicator is based on the video strain-load measurement of the English start-up OpenCapacity
Since 2012, the founders and current managing directors of SIUT have been researching the components concrete and light in cooperation with the TU Berlin. The start-up was founded in Berlin in 2015 and participated in the DB Accelerator program in 2016.
