Singapore is the center of global maritime shipping today. According to Singapore statistics, the city state’s container port has ranked first worldwide since 2005: in 2007, almost 28 million TEUs were handled there (TEU = 20-foot equivalent unit, the standard measure based on 20 foot long containers), a good 12 percent more than in the previous year.
