(Berlin/Essen/Zagreb, 1 June 2010) DB Schenker's country organization in Croatia recently moved into a highly modern facility in Zagreb. The new terminal offers 2,500 square meters of storage space with a bonded warehouse and customs office, as well as 1,000 square meters of office space making it one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Croatia. The site is TAPA FSR A-level compliant, which underlines the facility's advanced capabilities. The neighboring office building houses the company's Corporate Office including all operational units ranging from land transport through to air and ocean freight as well as logistics. The company's additional seven branch offices in Croatia are managed from this location.

"The new facility is for us a further important milestone in Croatia. It is fully integrated in our European and global network and enables us to provide smooth services at a consistently high level of quality from a single source," explained Karl Nutzinger, CEO Europe of Schenker AG.

Thanks to regular system connections to all European countries, the national company in Croatia, Schenker d.o.o., holds a leading position in the local market, especially in the land transport sector. These connections include daily runs to Austria, Germany, Italy, as well as Serbia and Bosnia, Croatia's most important trade partners. "The international routes are ideally complemented by our domestic network which guarantees distribution throughout Croatia within 24 hours. In view of Croatia's geography this is an outstanding service and has enabled us to record major gains in volume," notes Elmar Wieland, Chairman of the Board of Management, Schenker & Co AG, Vienna, also responsible for the activities in Southeast Europe.

Schenker d.o.o., which currently has 105 employees, benefits from its presence at the Rijeka seaport as well as the Zagreb Airport. Furthermore, connections to the regional hubs in Vienna (air freight-import) as well as Salzburg (air freight-export) guarantee price advantages to the Croatian economy by consolidating shipments plus best global flight connections and are additional advantages offered by the location. "The further development of our logistics business in Croatia will be a focal point in the coming weeks and months. We already provide support to well known customers like Adidas as well as numerous Croatian companies. However, we also see that there is significant additional potential for us here," notes Wieland in looking ahead.

"Within the framework of our recent sales campaign that emphasizes Southeast Europe, we are targeting the marketing of these new locations and the strength of our network in Southeast Europe," said Karl Nutzinger.
