skip: The oldest vehicle in the DB Museum
Our tour through the museum entitled “History of the Railway in Germany” starts at the oldest rail vehicle on the European continent preserved in its original condition. It originates from Britain and is on loan from the National Railway Museum York.

The coal wagon was built in 1829 for South Hetton Colliery near Newcastle. The wagon carried around 2.5 tons of coal and was hauled both by pit ponies and locomotives.
