Welcome address by Günter Kirchheim, Chairman of the EWC
skip: Welcome address by Günter Kirchheim, Chairman of the EWCDear Colleagues and Visitors to this Website,
The European Works Council of Deutsche Bahn AG is still a comparatively new body. This organisation, which represents the employee interests in the DB Group at European level, has now been in operation for four years.
At present, the EWC consists of members from 19 different countries. Together, we represent the interests of the entire workforce of the DB Group. Over the past four years, we have got to know and understand problems experienced by DB employees in other countries and from other corporate divisions. We have started to accept that there are different ways of tackling these problems, and have also learned to make use of that knowledge. We are constantly learning from one another and with one another.
As the representatives of employee interests, we are constantly faced with new challenges resulting from the far-reaching consequences of the ongoing Europeanization of the DB Group. Traditional ways of thinking and acting are no longer effective and isolated national strategies often prove inadequate. We now have to think and act as Europeans if we are to successfully fulfil our remit of representing the social rights of all employees in the DB Group. We are all working towards the same goal – to ensure that the DB internationalisation strategy is designed on socially acceptable principles. In future, it will be the international, not the national markets that are decisive. We regard our joint work on the EWC as a contribution towards creating a fairer, socially balanced Europe.
I should like to take this opportunity of sending my regards to all employees of the DB Group throughout Europe. If you have any problems, please do not hesitate to seek the support of the EWC, the representatives of all employees of the DB Group.
