Entrepreneurship at DB
Incubator for innovation and new business models
New technologies are driving forward digitalization in mobility and logistics. To create a digital ecosystem, which offers a wealth of innovation and an incubator for the inventors and self-starters behind this ecosystem, Deutsche Bahn is collaborating with start-ups.
The program DB StartupXpress offers fledgling companies, which are focused on delivering specific improvements for rail customers, an extensive funding program. The coworking space DB mindbox in Berlin is Deutsche Bahn's main start-up location. The aim here is to develop prototypes rapidly in cooperation with the DB business segments. These prototypes sustainably make rail travel a more compelling option.
In addition, DB promotes start-ups so it can develop with them new offerings apart from rail transport. The program established specifically for new business models is dubbed Beyond1435. Here, entrepreneurs and developers find the freedom they need – as well as access to data, markets, customers and other networks of DB: In short, the ideal conditions to realize and scale their idea in the market. The aim is to participate in the innovativeness and the growth of the start-ups by means of financial investments and, in turn, generate new business value for DB.
DB employees can also take part in Beyond1435. A separate intrapreneuership program provides employees with the framework they need to allow an idea to mature into a marketable business model and to get up and running as a hived-off start-up under the umbrella of DB Digital Ventures.
