The Deutsche Bahn Digital Ventures finances and develops new data-based business models. In addition to the technology focus on Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT), the main focus is on market change, to show founders and technology partners their ability to establish future-oriented solutions for the customers in the three fields of mobility, logistics and smart cities.
In order to promote start-ups and new data-based business models, DB Digital Ventures is expected to provide € 100 million of risk capital by the end of 2019.
The start-ups are not only gaining venture capital, but also get access to experts, data customers and markets – and so to the whole network of DB Group. The Deutsche Bahn is accelerating through the exchange with start-ups and innovation partners the innovation and growth potential of the entire company.
Deutsche Bahn has invested for example in the enterprises CleverShuttle, Qixxit, What3Words, Talixo and Connected Signals start-ups through minority interests.
Deutsche Bahn Digital Ventures has two Managing Directors: Manuel Gerres, the Head of New Digital Business at DB, and Boris Kühn, who is responsible for M&A in DB's Finance department.
