    Infrastructure

    We operate a 33,400 kilometre-long network with 5,400 stations, which are used by 450 railway companies and 50,000 trains every day.

    Passenger transport

    Every day, more than five million people travel with Deutsche Bahn - in ICE and Intercity trains, in regional express trains or in regional and suburban trains.

    Logistics

    DB Cargo replaces around 80,000 lorry journeys across Europe each day, offering a climate-friendly alternative.

    More efficient, more reliable and determined to permanently and noticeably improve quality for passengers.

    The modernisation of the infrastructure takes time. We are implementing three immediate action programmes so that customers can see that things are improving at DB: for improved cleanliness and security at our stations. For greater comfort on long-distance services. For a better customer information. For these three programmes, we are investing a total of more than 140 million euros in DB in 2026 alone.  

    Even cleaner trains and ever more reliable service in our dining cars make train journeys even more comfortable and attractive. 

    Increased presence of security staff, additional cleaning and quick repairs at railway stations ensure that people enjoy their stay and get to their trains in comfort.  

    In future, DB will provide customers with even better information before and during their journey - both on the train, at the station and in digital information channels.

    The strategy DB2020+ of the Deutsche Bahn AG is an uncompromised commitment to social responsibility. Responsible procurement management is a fundamental value driver to our business and to society. Our contribution to a sustainable development can only be successful when partnering up with a strong supply chain. Our suppliers’ sustainability efforts and innovative capacity contribute to our business performance. The baseline for sustainable supplier relations and for procurement decisions of the Deutsche Bahn AG is a complete sustainability assessment of the suppliers. The assessment addresses the management system, the derived measures and the achieved goals. It identifies improvement potentials that trigger measures. We trace the implementation and accompany the supplier’s development.

    Hence we jointly reduce supply risk and increase the competitiveness of our supply base. Long-term we strive for cooperating exclusively with suppliers that have a sustainability rating, are continuously improving their sustainability performance and enforce this behavior with their suppliers. As a member of the initiative Railsponsible  we engage for transparent assessment methods and promote best practices on all levels of the value chain. What we expect from our suppliers and interface partners

    • An independent assessment of the sustainable business processes design (EcoVadis or equivalent)
    • A clear public commitment to a sustainable business policy
    • An increased acceptance of ecological and social criteria in tenders
    • To consider the membership in Railsponsible
    • To support the development of an independent sustainability certification in the branch

    The topic sustainability is already tangible for our suppliers in the prequalification process in the infrastructure procurement. Since 01.07.2017 we offer an alternative qualification through a sustainability rating. Rated suppliers enjoy the abrogation of all sustainability questions in the DB-questionnaire for supplier qualification and many more advantages.
