Article: Working together for a culture of tolerance and respect
DB trainees have taken a clear stance against xenophobia, right-wing extremism, racism and discrimination through the "Deutsche Bahn Trainees against Hatred and Violence" project, which promotes a culture of tolerance and respect.
Given that Deutsche Bahn has some 7,000 employees in Germany who come from over 100 nations and five million customers each day who come from all parts of the world, diversity and interacting with people from other cultures are part of everyday life at the company. Open-mindedness toward different cultures and ways of life is a matter of course for us. Respect, tolerance and civic courage are indispensable values.
That's why DB emphatically speaks out against right-wing extremism, discrimination and violence. We take responsibility for actively combating racism and xenophobia and setting an example against hatred and violence.
The Deutsche Bahn Trainees against Hatred and Violence project was launched in 2000 and is currently operated under the patronage of the CEO and Chairman of Deutsche Bahn AG, Dr. Rüdiger Grube; the Chairman of the German Rail and Transport Workers' Union (EVG), Alexander Kirchner; and the Deputy Chairman of the German Rail and Transport Workers' Union (EVG), Klaus-Dieter Hommel.
All first- and second-year trainees at DB are asked to take part in the Deutsche Bahn Trainees against Hatred and Violence – working together for a culture of tolerance and respect competition. Second- and third-year trainees can participate by mentoring new trainees taking part in the competition.
Participants are asked to develop any type of project that expressly promotes greater tolerance, civic courage and respect. Talk to your colleagues and trainees about hatred and violence. Share your experiences, be creative and think about what can be done to effectively combat hatred and violence. Form a team and start your own project. There are no limits to what can be accomplished through creativity!
