Article: Werner Gatzer as new Chairman of the Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board of DB elects State Secretary for Finance to succeed Michael Odenwald until March 2025

The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG has elected Werner Gatzer as its new chairman. The term of office of the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance (Bundesfinanzministerium; BMF) runs until March 2025, when the appointment of all Supervisory Board members ends with the Annual General Meeting.

The 63-year-old lawyer is the longest-serving State Secretary in the German Government. He has worked in this capacity for the BMF since 2005. He became a member of the Supervisory Board of DB in February 2020.

Gatzer succeeds Michael Odenwald, who resigned from his post at the end of July. Since then, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board Klaus-Dieter Hommel has been in charge. The Chairman of the Railway and Transport Union (Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft; EVG) is leaving the DB Supervisory Board after 19 years of service on the supervisory body.

Werner Gatzer: "Only with a strong and successful DB will the shift in the mode of transport in Germany succeed. The company has major tasks to master in the coming years. So, let's tackle it together!"

Dr. Richard Lutz: "Rail as a mode of transport and DB are facing major challenges that require close cooperation between the owner, employee representatives and the company. Werner Gatzer stands for this joint approach. We look forward to working together with Gatzer in his new role."
