Article: DB's corporate social responsibility

Deutsche Bahn has traditionally been involved in social development. It focuses on education and integration projects, environmental protection and humanitarian relief.

DB has been involved in social projects in Germany and around the world for years. As a multinational mobility and logistics company and one of Germany's largest employers and providers of training, it feels a particular responsibility for the development of society as a whole and puts this responsibility to practice. Based on the conviction that success is measured not only in financial terms, DB uses its capabilities to live up to this responsibility. It places special emphasis on children and young people in particular.

Its activities are not limited to Germany either: DB is also involved in a number of initiatives at international level, from its environment internships in Australia and promotion of schoolchildren’s development in Sweden, South Africa and the United States to planting programs in Singapore.

As well as running various projects of its own, DB supports many cultural and social centers, initiatives and activities by means of donations. In 2012, it donated a total of 1.1 million euros to projects of this kind in Germany alone. In addition to this, DB sponsors initiatives and organizations. The company primarily supports projects whose objectives coincide with its own.

DB's sustainable social commitment also comprises safeguarding the company's long-term success through a system to detect compliance risks in the company early on as well as through safety in railway facilities. DB has implemented preventive measures to prevent accidents, provides information about hazards at some 5,600 stops and stations throughout Germany, and makes instructional materials and educational videos available.

Since February 2013, DB has pooled its charitable activities within the Group's own foundation. Deutsche Bahn Stiftung gGmbH coordinates the Group's major charitable initiatives and projects. Christina Rau is the foundation’s patron. The DB Museum has also been made part of the foundation.
