DB Systemtechnik – provider of a comprehensive range of engineering services

Many years of experience and unique system skills – as a leading pan-European centre of excellence for railway engineering, DB Systemtechnik provides its  customers with tailor-made solutions for safe, reliable, customer-friendly rail operation.

As various as the interaction of the wheel-rail system itself are the services of DB Systemtechnik. Around 900 employees at the main locations Munich, Minden, Kirchmöser and Derby (the subsidiary ESG Rail in UK) provide them to the DB Group and a steadily-expanding external customer base:

This is where expertise in the technical system of rail is concentrated. The company has a comprehensive overview of the system and takes a practical approach, creating the conditions for working interaction between operation, vehicle engineering and infrastructure, the quality of which is crucial to DB's commercial success and competitiveness. DB Systemtechnik provides the Group with integrated, holistic solutions at the interface between transport and infrastructure, with the objective of smooth, cost-effective railway operation. Its complex range of services and competitive cost structures also make it a sought-after partner on the international market.

DB Systemtechnik operates as two business segments:

  • Engineering services

The engineering services business segment covers all the work of DB Systemtechnik in which we can make a positive contribution throughout the entire value-added chain with our specialist railway engineering expertise, for both various internal DB customers and external customers in the railway industry.

  • Approval management, tests and certification

Engineering tests and trials make an important contribution to ensuring the safe, reliable and economical use of the technical systems deployed in today’s railway systems. The approval of technical systems is a highly complex task that is shaped primarily by globalised deployment of rolling stock, and parallel national and European regulations.
