Deutsche Bahn also offers its customers various mobility solutions beyond rail travel — for example, the Call a Bike bike-sharing system. In 45 cities and municipalities, over 15,500 bicycles are available for rent and ready to ride. In Hamburg and Lüneburg, for example, the service is called StadtRAD, and in Stuttgart, RegioRad.

Cargo e-bikes expand the fleet
In Hamburg, Lüneburg, and Stuttgart, cargo bikes with electric motors complement the bicycle fleet. Whether for weekly grocery shopping, a trip into the surrounding countryside, or taking the kids to daycare—the cargo e-bikes are a flexible and eco-friendly transportation alternative to the car.
The bike fleet receives regular product updates—such as the red front basket, which gives riders a better view of their baggage. The bottom of the baskets also provides space for solar panels which provide the smart fitter with energy. This makes renting and returning bikes even more convenient. With the app, the bikes can be unlocked simply by scanning a QR code. The additional LED display also makes it possible to see from a distance whether a bike is available. In addition to modernizing the bikes, the bike fleets in some cities have also been expanded, for example with the new generation of pedelecs in Stuttgart.
Following the transition to a purely stationary system, bikes can be rented and returned at physical stations or at stations marked virtually in the app in respective cities—providing a uniform solution throughout Germany.
